Amara Chirim Brand launches a campaign for Rape and Harrassment victims tagged #ISaidNo

The Amara Chirim Brand has launched a campaign against Rape and harrassment for both genders on the basis of anonymity. This campaign is set to reach out to rape victims who are scared to speak up due to societal stigmatization. They have created an avenue where these victims will write a mail without their picture and send to the Brand's mail; amarachirim@gmail.com. This will help a lot of people get things off their chest as the world currently dosen't want to listen to the male gender and few are paying attention to the female gender. Most people are scared to speak so as not to be tagged a liar, that is what this campaign aims to resolve. Speak your truth, send that mail and it'll be published for the world to see(without your email of course). Male or female are advised to write, because men get raped too and it should be treated with the same energy as the female cases. You said No! Own it! Send your mails and feedbacks to amarachirim@gmail.com

The tradition in Kenya that allows older men rape underaged girls

There is a tradition in Samburu Kenya, known as "beading", where older men rape young girls, some as young as 6 years old. A close relative will meet with the girl's parents and offer her a necklace intricately woven with bright beads of a man from the community, Once accepted, the chain will be placed around the child’s neck and the man is then able to start a sexual relationship with the girl. The widespread belief is that this will prevent girls from being promiscuous and wayward, an idea that is upheld and protected by the elders.  To go against it could ignite various superstitions, and will be seen as disrespecting the traditions of the local people. As condoms are never used, many of the girls fall pregnant, however, the girls are not “allowed” to get pregnant. Any who does will be unable to keep the child, since it is regarded as a shame on the family, and will prohibit the girl from being able to get married.

Why Feminists Are Angry People- Deborah Ezeagu, Girl Child Activist

A  girl child activist, Deborah Chinecherem Ezeagu, has taken to her Facebook page to clear the misconceptions on why feminists are regarded as being "angry". While many continue to misunderstand the concepts of feminism, this article should give a clear information about the movement. Read post below: "I've seen many people refer to feminists or female activists as "angry people". "They're just angry" they'd say with the most derogatory tone ever. Many times I've caught myself countering them and arguing that people advocating for something doesn't necessarily make them "angry" people.  Lol, I wouldn't dare counter that now because of a truth, many of us, if not all of us, are angry. And we have every right to be. I, for one, am angry. This anger wells up as more realities unfold. When I think of the fact that I had to wear a wedding ring for the better part of my stay in UNIBEN, I get pissed beyond word...
