Governor of Ebonyi state tests positive for Covid-19

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. The Governor confirmed this in a statement personally signed by him on Saturday, July 4.   According to the governor, he and some of his aides had the test carried out on them and the result came back positive. He said presently they are not showing any symptoms but have since gone into isolation in line with protocols laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).   He has asked the Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, to take over the frontline coordination of the state’s fight against the pandemic to protect Ebonyi people. He appealed to residents of the state to take the NCDC protocols more seriously while stating that he’s working from home and will conduct all meetings virtually.   Ebonyi state currently has 438 confirmed cases of the viral disease. 357 persons have been successfully treated while three have died.

The Nigerian Centre for Diseases Control as at 11pm on may 15, has confirmed 288 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, as number of confirmed cases skyrockets to 5445, with 171 deaths and 1320 discharged. Two patients on the run after testing positive for Coronavirus in Kaduna

Two Coronavirus patients have reportedly absconded after being notified of their test results by health officials in Kaduna state.  In a statement released today May 10, Kaduna state's Commissioner of Health Dr. Amina Mohammed-Baloni said the two patients had been on isolation pending receipts of their test results, and had been duly informed on Friday that they had tested positive. Covid-19: Police officer in Ogun dies from virus complications

A police officer has died of complications after being infected with COVID-19. The officer died not long after he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.   Google A test, which was carried out on his body returned positive for the virus.  “His body is being prepared for release to his family for burial in strict compliance with World Health Organisations guidelines. "All staff, who came in contact with the deceased, are currently on self isolation,” Orisajo said. Ogun currently has 115 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

64 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 in Oyo State - Gov. Seyi Makinde

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Sunday said 64 people have so far tested for COVID-19 in the state. Makinde, who stated this in his tweeter handle monitored in Ibadan, said the five new confirmed cases announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday night, brought the number to 64. He tweeted “the COVID-19 confirmation tests for five suspected cases came back POSITIVE. “The cases are from the following local government areas: Ibadan North (2), a foreigner in Surulere, Ibadan North East (1) and Ibadan South West (1). “So the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State is sixty-four.” He urged the general public to call the emergency operations centre, if they found travellers from other states arriving in their neighbourhood. He gave the numbers as 08095394000, 08095863000, 08078288999 or 08078288800. The five new confirmed cases in the state were among the 239 recorded in 15 states on Saturday by the NCDC.

Coronavirus:Sanwo-Olu threatens total Lockdown over non compliance of Lagosians

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has threatened to impose a total lockdown on the state if people continue to violate the safety guidelines issued to contain the spread of the virus in the state. He said the compliance with the use of face masks and social distancing directive had not been fully complied with and that the state had been recording more cases. He said, “If we do not see an improvement in the next couple of days, we would be forced to evoke the very painful decision of bringing the entire system under a lockdown again. “I’m aware that the Presidential Task Force has also made this point and very importantly that the continued maintenance of this ease is only guaranteed when people consistently comply. Kwara records first Covid-19 death

Kwara State Government has recorded one death from COVID-19 in the state. The person was brought to the state from Lagos after he suffered stroke. He subsequently died from complications from the virus. According to Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, the man, his wife and children were tested for the virus and their results came back positive.  He said, "Before his death, the government had treated him, his wife and their child as suspected cases and samples were taken from them. "The results of their samples came back positive. Unfortunately, he died early Saturday morning even before the family got to know about their COVID status. "He has been buried accordingly. 239 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Nigeria as at May 9; as cases rises to 4151, with 128 deaths

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Saturday night confirmed 239 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. The centre said on its Twitter handle that Nigeria now had 4,151 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 128 deaths. Meanwhile, 745 persons have been discharged from isolation facilities after they were given a clean bill of health by medical personnel. The breakdown of the figure on state-by-state basis showed the following: Lagos (97), Bauchi (44), Kano (29), Katsina (19), Borno (17), FCT (7), Kwara (6) and Oyo (5). Others are –Kaduna (3), Sokoto (3), Adamawa (2), Kebbi (2), Plateau (2), Ogun (2), and Ekiti (1). The NCDC said: “4,151 cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. “Discharged: 745 AND Deaths: 128.”

Covid-19: Pharmacist die after drinking concoction he prepared to cure the virus

An Indian pharmacist was confirmed dead on Saturday May 9, after he drank a chemical concoction he developed in a bid to treat Coronavirus.  47-year-old K. Sivanesan who worked with Chennai-based Sujatha Biotech, an Ayurvedic and herbal products company which was founded 30 years ago, died on the spot while his colleague, a managing director of the company who is an ophthamologist by qualification, was hospitalised after he fainted soon after he ingested the chemical component. The two men reportedly ingested the chemical mixture of nitric oxide and sodium nitrate at a home in southern Chennai city. Deputy Commissioner of Police,Ashok Kumar said;  “Our investigation revealed that Sivanesan died after drinking the preparation he claimed would help COVID-19 patients. NCDC reveals that 26% of Coronavirus cases are from unknown sources

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in a report released yesterday April 22, revealed that about 26% of Nigeria's Coronavirus cases are from unknown sources.  The health agency disclosed that 26 per cent represented 203 of the 782 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday April 21.  According to the NCDC,  210 (27 per cent) of the cases involved people with travel history, while 274 (35 per cent) of the cases were contacts of those with travel history. The Centre classified the remaining 95 (12 per cent) of the cases as incomplete. The report came before the agency confirmed 91 new cases of Coronavirus in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 873. 

Miraculous: Covid-19 pregnant lady expected to give birth to dead baby, delivers a healthy baby

A pregnant COVID-19 patient was told by doctors that the baby in her womb had died due to complications from the deadly virus. However, she surprised doctors when she gave birth and the baby was alive. The pregnant mother gave birth on Wednesday, April 22, after doctors told her that she has to deliver her dead baby. Fortunately, when the baby was born, she was alive. Sharing the news to Twitter, the sister of the new mum wrote: "My sister has been in the hospital due to COVID 19. She was pregnant. They told her she lost the baby and she had to deliver the (deceased) baby today. She just delivered the baby. The baby was alive. Welcome my new niece into the world y'all. My God is GOOD."

Osun state govt orders the mandatory use of facemask

The Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has announced the mandatory use of face mask in public places by residents. In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, April 23, the state governor said the mandatory use of facemask will take effect from Friday April 24th. Osun state has 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Covid-19 update: NCDC confirms 91 new cases in Nigeria, with 74 in Lagos

The National Centre for Diseases Control have confirmed that there are 91 new cases of COVID-19, with 197 discharged and 28 deaths. The number of confirmed cases in Nigeria amounts to 873 in total. This was confirmed on the 22nd of April 2020 at 11:25 on WAT.

Police officer dies of COVID-19 in Edo state making it the second death in the state

The Edo State Government has recorded its second COVID19 death. According to the state Commissioner for Health, Patrick Okundia, the 2nd COVID-19 death was a 57-year-old police officer. “We had an unfortunate situation of a 57-year-old police officer, who passed on yesterday (Tuesday). It is not very clear how he got the infection but he developed some illnesses. Initially, there was no evidence of suspicion of coronavirus disease, but when the symptoms started getting worse, he was treated at the police clinic. “About two days before he died, our surveillance team was called to have a look and it was in that process that they took his sample and sent it to the laboratory, while he continued with his drugs.He was consequently placed on self-isolation. However, the result came out positive. Update on Covid-19: 117 new cases confirmed,with Lagos topping the list with 59 new cases and 430 cases in total

According to the National Centre for Diseases Control(NCDC), there are 117 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with Lagos State ranking highest with a number of 59 new cases and 430 cases in total. There are 197 discharged patients with 25 deaths.

Covid-19: Lagos discharges 9 more patients,total discharged 107

The Lagos state government has discharged nine more COVID-19 patients in the state. This was announced in a tweet by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on New Media, Jubril Gawat. According to Jubril, the patients include five females, and four males which includes one Polish national. 107 COVID-19 patients have been discharged in the state.
