Covid-19: Lockdown has not been effective- Lagos State HOA Speaker

Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has stated that the lockdown order issued by President Buhari in the state has not been effective in curbing the spread of the disease.

The Speaker who called for domestication of the lockdown order in tweets he shared, averred that if the lockdown must continue, it is better the state government moves with all strategies.

Obasa tweeted;

“I commend the Commissioner for Health @ProfAkinAbayomi, through him to the Executive Governor of Lagos @jidesanwoolu for your unrelenting effort on #COVID19.

“But, I must say that the lockdown is not quite effective, can we domesticate the lockdown by involving the Local government?

“Just as we have the incident command at the State level, can we replicate the same at those Local Government with high rising number of #COVID19.

“If the lockdown will continue, it is better we move with all strategies."

Breaking! 44 Suspected Boko Haram members found dead in Chadian prison

44 suspected members of Boko Haram were found dead in a prison in Chad's capital city of N'Djamena on Saturday April 18. Autopsies conducted on the late suspected terrorists revealed that they ingested a substance which caused heart and breathing complications, according to the Chadian government. Chad's chief prosecutor Yousssouf Tom who confirmed the death on national television, said the suspects were arrested during a recent operation against Boko Haram carried out near Lake Chad. Ekiti State Chief Justice frees 33 inmates

Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, has set free 33 inmates of the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti. The beneficiaries comprised 18 awaiting trial inmates, 13 convicts and two others who were granted bail. Daramola said his visit to the correctional centre was in line with the directive of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, to decongest the correctional centres across the country and reduce the spread of the ravaging COVID-19. A statement from the Chief Registrar of Ekiti State Judiciary, Mr Johnson Apuabi, stated, “The 13 convicts were granted amnesty based on old age. Others were pardoned based on the fact that their jail terms were near completion. “In all, 334 cases were reviewed; 18 were pardoned based on lesser offences committed ranging from burglary to stealing and theft, while two were granted bail on liberal terms.”
